OPENING HOURS Monday - Friday 8:30am - 1:00pm & 2 -6: 30pm The Open Surgery on a Monday will continue. Walk in between 08:30 and 10:30am and you will be seen. Tuesdays we offer early morning appointments from 7:10am, these are pre bookable until 8:20am, all other appointments for the day are released at 8:30am.
THE SURGERY IS CLOSED ON BANK HOLIDAYS & THE FOLLOWING DAY IS ALWAYS AN OPEN SURGERY STARTING AT 8:30AM

NEW APPOINTMENT SYSTEM
Due to the recent increased demand for doctors'appointments and in response to feedback, we are piloting a new appointment system.
We have changed the way we manage requests for ON THE DAY APPOINTMENTS
We ask that anyone needing a same day appointment phone the surgery between 08:30 and 09:30. The receptionist will triage your call and offer you an appointment if required. We have increased the number of pre-bookable appointments available up to one month in advance.
MISSED APPOINTMENT If you book an appointment and no longer require it please cancel it.
Baby Clinic Thursdays 1pm - 2.30pm
PROTECTED LEARNING DATES 2013 - The surgery will be closed from 1pm on the following dates, there will be no baby clinic either.
Thursday 16th May, Wednesday 19th June, Wednesday 17th July, Wednesday 18th September, Wednesday 9th October, Wednesday 20th November.
TRAVEL VACCINATIONS We ask that you allow plenty of time to book your vaccines. You need to pick up a form from reception to complete and leave with our nurse for a couple of days, she will then advise you what vaccines you require. Malaria Tablets £15 private prescription plus the cost of the tablets from the chemist. Yellow Fever & Rabies are not available at the surgery.

VIRTUAL PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP SURVEY RESULTS 2012/13
We have had a Patient Participation Group for many years “Friends of Southmead”. We decided to set up a Virtual Patient Participation Group in November 2011. We continue to advertise this on notice boards within the surgery, on our website and on the television in the waiting room. This ensures that a representative group has been achieved.
Many thanks to everybody who completed & returned the patient survey questionnaire and to those of you who attached additional comments.
Results of survey:
- 100% of patients found the receptionists to be very helpful.
- We asked patients if they would be happy to be contacted for information on aspects of their lifestyle via

2/3rds of patients are happy to be contacted via these methods
- Alterations to the appointment system
a) Reception triaging ?
Majority felt comfortable with this, some felt it depended on the condition they were presenting with and others questioned had any training had been given.
b) Was it now easier to obtain an on the day appointment?
Those that had used the system found it satisfactory.
c) Was it easier to make an appointment in advance with the doctor of your choice?
70% of patients found it easier to book in advance with half of those now using the internet system. The remaining patients had not tried to do so.
d) Was it useful to have telephone consultations?
Again 70% found it very useful and the remainder had not needed to use the system.

- Handling of repeat prescription requests seems to have improved, need to be sure to handle items which have been passed to doctors who are not in so that these are not delayed
